Baseball/Softball Instructor – Racquet Fitness & Gymnastics Center
The Baseball/Softball Instructor position is a part-time position under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager. The position is responsible for baseball/softball lessons to all age groups in a private or group setting.
INCENTIVES: Part time employees receive 25% off general programs with the exception of PDNA, contracted, trips and private lessons. In order to encourage a healthy lifestyle for our staff members, the Park District provides all staff with the opportunity to use our fitness facilities at the Community Pavilion and the Racquet, Fitness and Gymnastics Center free of charge.
ABOUT US: The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and solid skills in the sport of baseball/softball
Communication and organization skills
Ability to teach all age groups
Ability to lead baseball classes in instruction and curriculum
Customer service skills and ability to communicate professionally with patrons and staff
Customer focus and relationship building skills
Must be able to work independently or with groups
CPR/First Aid Certification
Complete mandated reporter training

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instructing group and individual lessons
Assist in baseball/softball camps
Recruit baseball/softball patrons for private lessons
Check attendance of camps with class lists
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Make calls as directed to various patrons
To understand and follow the park district policies and rules of the facility
To react appropriately during emergency situations
Assist patrons at front desk when needed with baseball/softball questions
Report suspicious activity, property damage and inappropriate behavior in or
around facility
Supervise children during restroom breaks or when leaving court during class
Attend all park district trainings pertinent to the job
PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Must be able to work flexible hours
Must be able to instruct for long periods of time
Must be able to adapt to environment and conditions during projects or changes are made
Must be able to physically teach and interact with participants
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Must be able to work with groups or one on one
Ability to work with staff and patrons in a friendly and relaxed manner
Ability to use good judgment in the absence of supervision
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Able to perform work indoors in heat or air conditioning
Able to conduct lessons and work for long periods of time
