Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Compensation: $14.00 to $16 an hour per hour

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role is essential in delivering exceptional patient care across a variety of clinical environments, including outpatient clinics, hospital medicine units, and urgent care settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, clinical competence, and a commitment to patient-centered service.

This position offers the opportunity to work within diverse specialties—such as dermatology, internal medicine, geriatrics, emergency medicine, and more—while supporting physicians and healthcare professionals through both clinical and administrative responsibilities. Primary Responsibilities

  • Patient intake and documentation: Collect medical histories, verify insurance information, and accurately update Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Vital sign assessment: Measure and record blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
  • Patient preparation: Prepare patients for examinations and procedures while ensuring comfort and understanding.
  • Clinical support: Assist providers with medication administration, wound care, and Basic Life Support (BLS) procedures.
  • Diagnostic assistance: Support diagnostic activities such as X‐ray positioning and laboratory specimen collection when applicable.
  • EHR documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Unit and clinic support: Assist in managing inpatient and outpatient workflows across specialties including dermatology, internal medicine, and geriatrics.
  • Emergency care support: Provide rapid assessments and vital sign monitoring in Level I and Level II trauma environments.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Work alongside staff in specialized units such as PICU, geriatrics, and medical‐surgical floors.
  • ICD coding: Perform accurate ICD coding for diagnoses and procedures to support billing and documentation.
  • Administrative coordination: Manage appointment scheduling, follow‐up communication, and documentation-related administrative tasks.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Clinical experience: Demonstrated experience in dermatology, hospital medicine, urgent care, or emergency department settings, including Level I or Level II trauma exposure.
  • Medical knowledge: Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology across multiple specialties.
  • EHR proficiency: Skilled in electronic documentation and data entry.
  • Diagnostic competency: Ability to perform basic diagnostic procedures such as X‐ray positioning and specimen collection.
  • ICD coding knowledge: Familiarity with coding standards for accurate documentation and billing.
  • Patient service excellence: Exceptional communication, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Intake experience: Experience supporting inpatient admissions and outpatient intake processes.
  • Certification requirements: Active CMA certification and current BLS certification; ACLS or medication administration certification preferred.
  • Adaptability: Ability to perform effectively in fast‐paced clinical environments.
