BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

                                                                                        Health and Safety

1.    Contribute to a positive environment for Head Start children and families by welcoming children and engaging them in positive interactions as appropriate.
2.    Clean and Sanitize Center using approved EPA registered products twice daily. Label, dilute, and properly use all cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting products. 
3.    Complete daily/ evening cleaning for Middletown and Scotchtown centers including: cleaning glass, clean and sanitize high touch surfaces, vacuum, dust, sweep, mop, sanitize and clean restrooms, empty garbage’s, 
4.    Complete weekly cleaning for Middletown and Scotchtown Centers including wipe walls and restroom stalls, deep dusting, clean children’s cubbies. 
5.    Complete Monthly deep cleaning for Middletown and Scotchtown Centers including dusting ceiling vents, kitchen deep cleaning, dusting high top surfaces. 
6.    Clean and sanitize agency vehicles as needed.
7.    Clean, sanitize, and vacuum offices as needed. Sanitize high touch surfaces and remove trash. 
8.    Clean hallway and walkways including floor mats daily and when necessary.  
9.    Wear appropriate PPE for personal safety when using cleaning products and to prevent the spread of infectious disease. 
10.    Attend safety and other related training as requested.
11.    Acquaint her/himself with the Head Start program performance standards.
12.    Steam clean and sanitize carpets as needed and at least 2 times per year. 
13.    Maintain the confidentiality of personal information gained through parent/client/staff contact.
14.    Deep cleaning of classrooms and floor treatments in summer months. 
15.    Coordinate with facilities department for cleaning high ceiling fans and tops or lights twice annually. 
16.    Clean and sanitize church sanctuary, annex, and thrift shop weekly. Dust pews pulpit and choir area, vacuum carpets, dust mop and clean floors, empty trash, refresh paper products.
17.    Assure that all paper supplies and dispensers are filled daily. 

18.    Monitor all areas for health and safety concerns, make corrections or escalate concerns as needed.  

                                                                                            Maintenance 

19.    Remove and install window air conditioners seasonally. 
20.    Touch up and painting as needed. Patch small holes, spackle, and sand. 
21.    Mounting frames, shelves, and other materials as needed. 
22.    Move furniture and pack up classrooms for the weekend when needed.
23.    Set up tables and chairs for events and trainings. 
24.    Weekly cleaning of outdoor paths, weed removal, and sidewalk cleaning.
25.    Pick up and dispose of outdoor litter twice per week and as needed. 
26.    Shovel walkways, stairs, and paths in the winter. 
27.    Clear vehicles of snow. 
28.    Salt surfaces including spot salting parking lot as needed. 
29.    Change lightbulbs, exit signs, install hardware, change door knobs, and locks on cabinets.
30.    Minor plumbing and repairs, escalate to agency facilities team or outside vendors as needed. 
31.    Move and dispose of center furniture, unpack deliveries and assemble furniture and materials as needed. 
32.    Complete minor repairs to classroom and office furnishings. 
33.    Mow, weed whack, and maintain outdoor area.  
34.    Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times. 

                                                                         Record Keeping and Reporting

35.    Maintain a working inventory of janitorial and paper supplies. Request supplies when needed.  
36.    Complete daily/ weekly/ monthly checklist of cleaning. Maintain records of daily cleanings. 
37.    Request and order materials for ongoing maintenance as needed.
 
                                                                        Minor Responsibilities 
38.    Request and monitor purchases.
39.    Pick up supplies as needed. 
40.    Perform various tasks and resources as needed. 
41.    Follows agency Driver Safety requirements in travel.  
42.    Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the families.
 

QUALIFICATIONS


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE (Examples include knowledge, abilities, degrees, certifications, characteristics that the ideal candidate would have, could include professional demeanor, approachable, ability to work with frequent interruptions, etc.):
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in areas of property maintenance or janitorial; good interpersonal skills; strong sense of boundaries and the ability to communicate well; ability to work independently; knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures; 
  •  Knowledge of safety practices.
  •  Basic math skills. 
  • Intermediate level decisions needed to adhere to safety and scheduling considerations. 
  • Able to tolerate lifting of up to 75 lbs.
  •  Able to tolerate frequent bending at neck, frequent bending at waist and knees and occasional squatting. 
  •   Able to tolerate occasional climbing 
ARE ANY SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB?(Examples include certifications, ability to work weekends, driver license, etc.):  
  •     Must meet Day Care Licensing Comprehensive Background Clearance and Medical Clearance (including willing to submit to annual Drug Test clearance)
  •     Valid clean driver license
  •     Must pass physical examination
