What You'll Do
As the Data Governance and Disaster Recovery Administrator at Mid American Credit Union, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our data, overseeing data archival processes, and coordinating disaster recovery and business continuity efforts to improve the credit unions resilience against potential disasters, interruptions and data breaches.
Operations
- Data Governance -
- Develop and maintain data governance policies, procedures, and standards.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with various departments to establish and enforce data quality and data integrity standards across all data systems.
- Lead discovery processes for data value standardization and quality, and data flows to maximize efficiencies across systems to achieve business requirements.
- Data Warehouse & Archival -
- Serve as the subject matter expert, acting as the liaison between IT and departments to maximize utilization of specialized systems and programs including but not limited to data warehouse, CRM, and Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and Incident Response.
- Implement and manage data archival processes to maintain historical data in accordance with credit union policy.
- Ensure the accessibility and integrity of archived data for reporting and compliance purposes. Collaborate with IT and relevant stakeholders to establish data retention policies and implementing industry best practices.
- Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity -
- Maintain an up-to-date comprehensive disaster recovery plan for all critical credit union systems and processes.
- Collaborate with IT and operations teams to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities and communicate effectively with management mitigation strategies to limit risk.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to coordinate and participate in regular disaster recovery tests and drills ensuring testing objectives are achieved, including maintaining detailed documentation of plans and scheduled and completed activities.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to develop and maintain a robust business continuity program, identifying and prioritizing critical business functions and processes.
- Oversee testing of business continuity plans and coordinate implementation of identified changes to plans, ensuring they align with disaster recovery efforts. Train employees in business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.
- Projects -
- Lead and/or participate in ad hoc data-related projects, such as data migrations, data cleaning, or data consolidation efforts.
- Collaborate with IT to provide data analysis and reporting support to departments as needed.
- Collaborate with relevant team on annual IRS related data and reporting. Validate, submit and track IRS reporting in accordance with required guidelines.

What You Need to Get the Job Done
- Education A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.
- Experience Two to Five years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
- A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature.
- Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles and practices.
- Knowledge of data archival techniques and data lifecycle management.
- Computer skills: strong knowledge of Excel and the ability to learn credit union specific software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and with external partners.
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulation, including NCUA guidelines and FFIEC standards.
