Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, technically sharp Assistant Project Manager (APM) or Project Engineer to support an industrial semiconductor construction project for Intel. This is a doer role, not a traditional administrative PE or field superintendent position.
The ideal candidate operates at an APM-level, with strong technical comprehension and direct experience reviewing drawings, interpreting electrical and mechanical one-line diagrams, and supporting spec-driven procurement of complex, made-to-order equipment.
This role plays a critical function within estimating, preconstruction, and procurement, ensuring that all equipment being purchased aligns with drawings, specifications, and Intel standards before orders are finalized.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and electrical and mechanical one-line diagrams.
- Analyze drawings and specifications and distribute them to vendors for pricing and technical review.
- Perform detailed vendor and equipment comparisons, validating compliance with drawings, specs, and Intel requirements.
- Review and compare vendor quotes, submittals, and equipment data sheets line by line.
- Identify and communicate discrepancies between vendor proposals and project or Intel specifications.
- Support and directly handle procurement-related activities, including:
- Requesting and reviewing vendor pricing
- Confirming lead times and availability
- Comparing vendor options and equipment data
- Verifying quantities and pricing accuracy
- Evaluate and assist in purchasing large, spec-driven, made-to-order equipment, including high-value systems such as generators and other electrical or mechanical infrastructure.
- Review detailed engineering criteria, including:
- kW capacity
- Voltage
- Tier 4 requirements
- Performance and start-time requirements
- Coordinate with internal estimating, procurement teams, vendors, subcontractors, and Intel representatives to resolve technical or scope-related questions.
- Track vendor communications, responses, and comparison data using Excel and internal tracking tools.
- Support estimating with accurate technical data for scope validation and cost projections.
- Maintain organized documentation for all procurement and vendor-related activities.
- Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams and Intel stakeholders.
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of experience in commercial, industrial, or large-scale construction.
- Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and electrical/mechanical one-line diagrams.
- Direct, hands-on experience with technical procurement or vendor coordination, not just oversight.
- Strong technical comprehension and analytical skills, with the ability to validate equipment against specifications.
- Experience working with non-commodity, made-to-order equipment.
- High proficiency in Excel, document tracking, and construction software (Bluebeam, Procore, or similar).
- Exceptional attention to detail and organization.
- Strong communication skills and comfort coordinating across estimating, procurement, vendors, and owners.
- Experience on industrial, mission-critical, or semiconductor projects is a plus, but not required.
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, but practical experience is equally valued.
What This Role Is Not
- Not a junior PE or purely administrative role.
- Not commodity material purchasing.
- Not a field superintendent position.
- Not title-driven. This role is execution-focused and technically hands-on.
