The Role
The Literacy Tutor provides personalized instruction to students in grades 8–12, supporting the development and reinforcement of strong literacy skills, including reading, writing, and comprehension. This role works closely with the Academy Director and instructional team to tailor lessons to individual learning styles, monitor progress, and foster academic growth in a supportive environment.
This is a temporary position funded through Title I funds. Employment is contingent upon a yearly categorical allocation and this funding is currently expected to run through July 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess student reading and writing levels to identify gaps in foundational skills.
- Conduct one-on-one and/or small group tutoring sessions.
- Utilize existing instructional materials and techniques to enhance comprehension.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting strategies as needed.
- Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
Education: Bachelor’s degree or actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in English or a related field.
Certification: Florida educator’s license with a secondary English endorsement (REQUIRED).
Background Check: Demonstration of a clear state and federal criminal history.
Skills: Communication & interpersonal skills, collaboration, flexibility, organizational planning, and technological aptitude.
Passion: A commitment to supporting student success through personalized, targeted instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in non-traditional or at-risk youth settings
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and alternative education models
- Experience with competency-based learning, instructional coaching, or project-based education
- Strong comfort with educational technology tools and platforms
