Description

PT Public Health Nurse


The Public Health Nurse promotes and protects the health of populations through disease prevention, health 

education, and advocacy with a focus on community health and addressing health disparities.


Typical Tasks:

The duties listed below are intended to be illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

Provide nursing services to homebound Springdale residents:

- Provide instruction to the patients and/or their family members on medication management.

- Maintain confidential records for each patient.


Provide nursing services in the health Department clinic:

- Coordinate immunization clinics.

- Manage inventory immunization/vaccine supplies

- Administer immunizations.

- Order, receive, and reconcile immunizations and materials.

- Maintain records for each patient ensuring that vaccine information is entered into the database.

- Administer medications and treatments to patient based on physician’s directives and/or prescribed treatment plan.

- Administer health screenings.

- Perform patient assessments.

- Participate in emergency preparedness exercises, drills, and planning.

- Refer patients for follow-up care/resources if appropriate.

- Attend professional and educational meetings for professional development and/or to maintain licensure.

- Advocate for public health programs and resources.

- Perform other community health related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Be at least eighteen (18) years of age at time of appointment.
  2. Be eligible for employment in the U.S.
  3. Possess a valid driver’s license.
  4. Possess and have ability to maintain a Registered Nurse License (RN) or a Multistate Nursing License (MSL) with the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  5. Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or other similar programs.
  6. Ability to identify, interpret, and implement public health laws, regulations, policies, and best practice guidelines.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including translational services. 
  8. Ability to effectively use media, advanced technologies, and community networks to communicate public health information.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Springdale residents, co-workers, volunteers, outside organizations and agencies, other City officials, employees, and the general public.
  10. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, as well as persons of all ages and lifestyle preferences.
  11. Ability to collaborate with community partners to promote community health.
  12. Ability to prepare reports, as appropriate. 
  13. Ability to adapt to change, prioritize, and be flexible in job performance.
  14. Ability to maintain confidential records and information.

Working Conditions

The Public Health Nurse typically works part-time, 20-28 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm.


Physical Requirements

  1. Minimal physical labor activities from time to time as they relate to patient care and Health Department activities.
  2. Prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing.
