Position Overview

The Draftsman is a key member of the drafting team responsible for producing accurate production and installation drawings for precast concrete products. This role merges detailed CAD drafting with design engineering support to ensure every project is technically sound, manufacturable, and installation-ready.

You will collaborate closely with production, sales, consulting engineering firms, and field teams to optimize designs, improve efficiency, and maintain the highest quality standards.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Receive architectural drawings/blueprints and necessary project details from builders and convert them into detailed Superior Walls drawings for the production department.
  • Develop and design precast concrete products according to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Create detailed production and installation drawings to be reviewed with the Operations Manager.
  • Analyze project details to identify potential errors or misinterpretations and note them to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Prepare production take-off drawings for cost accounting and inventory control purposes.
  • Produce accurate installation plans for the set crew to facilitate smooth, efficient jobsite installation.
  • Create loading sheets to guide panel placement on trucks.
  • Collaborate with production, consulting engineering firms, sales, and field teams to ensure designs are feasible and manufacturable.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and analyses to optimize production efficiency.
  • Review and modify designs based on feedback from project stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of design processes, changes, and decisions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues during manufacturing and installation.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in precast concrete design and drafting.


Skills and Attributes:

  • High school diploma, trade/technical school certification, or equivalent job experience with emphasis in construction/design.
  • Basic knowledge of construction, masonry, or carpentry.
  • General computer proficiency with CAD software and spreadsheets.
  • Strong math and measurement skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with office, production, and field personnel.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of CAD drafting or design engineering experience.
  • Military experience may be accepted in place of secondary education or civilian certifications.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Silver Screen, SWA Super Walls System) and spreadsheets.
  • Strong math and measurement skills.
  • Basic knowledge of construction, masonry, or carpentry.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with office, production, and field personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field (PE not required).
  • Precast concrete industry experience.
  • Experience conducting feasibility studies and optimizing production efficiency.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, building codes, and safety regulations related to precast concrete.
