SUMMARY:
Plan, prepare and guide the continuing education (CE) experience for adult learners to meet the stated learning objectives of assigned class (es). May also involve serving in a consulting role to help businesses address organizational development needs.

Position Duties

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):
High school diploma or High School Equivalency and a minimum of seven (7) years industry experience required in Construction or related trades (i.e., Master Welder, Master Electrician, etc.).
 
PREFERRED:
Ten (10) years subject-related industry experience required. Teaching, or corporate training experience preferred.
 
CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification in construction trades (i.e., Master Welder, Master Electrician, etc.), or any construction trades training certification, such as The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) preferred.

Possess an NCCER Instructor certification or be willing to complete NCCER Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP), and obtain the appropriate certification from NCCER in the CORE area.

Minimum Qualifications

The incumbent:

  • Will prepare assignments: This may include studying/customizing existing instructor/facilitator guides, as well as possibly developing the curriculum.
  • Ensures effective learning tools (i.e., handouts, workbooks, audio-visual materials, and simulations) are ready in ample time for the class start time.
  • Uses effective adult learning techniques to accomplish stated learning objectives for a variety of learning styles.
  • Oversees, and at times arranges clinical setting if required and as a part of the assigned course.
  • Will work collaboratively with the Temple College Business and Continuing Education Division in the scheduling and conducting of open-enrollment and customized, contract training for which you may be assigned.
  • Professionally represents Temple College Business and Continuing Education in all interactions associated with scheduled assignments.
  • Sets up and cleans up classrooms assigned, to include: Ensuring all a/v, computer equipment and other electrical items used are turned off before leaving; erasing white board; returning tables/chairs to standard set-up if rearranged.
  • Attends meetings and/or professional development workshops/training as requested.
  • Keeps current in area(s) of expertise related to continuing education assignments.
  • Will perform other job related duties as required or needed.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of course delivery processes.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles. 
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design teaching and instruction for individuals and groups.
  • Knowledge of assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of appropriate subject matter and the application of that subject matter for the discipline being taught.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policy procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
 
SKILLS:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Skill to implement new strategies and procedures or examine and reengineer existing processes.
 
ABILITIES:
  • The incumbent must possess the ability to engage students in the learning process. 
  • The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and modify instructional processes.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
 
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Moderate physical activity that may include lifting, pushing, pulling of classroom furniture, materials, and equipment up to 30 pounds. Standing for extended periods of time. Keyboard manipulation.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an interior/office work environment.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Varies from class-to-class, project-to-project assignment. May be weekdays, evenings or Saturdays; short sessions (i.e., 2 hours) over several weeks; several, consecutive full days; weekly or semi-weekly sessions for several months. Will require evening and/or morning work during class semesters.

This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person, during prescribed work hours.
