Description\n

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring active CA licensure, Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification, and a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience.

  • Acute care hospital Labor & Delivery unit (LDRP)
  • \n
  • Patient population includes antepartum/intrapartum/postpartum patients at 32 weeks gestation and above; Level 2 NICU on site staffed by Stanford nurses who attend each deliveries
  • \n
  • Occasional GYN clean patient overflow may occur
  • \n
  • Patient ratios follow ACOG and California standards: 1:3 or 1:4 couplets
  • \n
  • Charting system: Cerner PowerChart Maternity and Cerner Fetal Links for fetal heart monitoring (FHM)
  • \n
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • \n
  • Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights, Sat/Sun days)
  • \n
  • Floating to postpartum (PP) unit in rotation with permanent staff
  • \n
  • Call is not required but is optional — during low census, nurses may be placed on call in 4-hour increments; if on call, must be within 20 minutes of the facility (a sleep room on site is available)
  • \n
Requirements\n

  • Active CA RN license in hand at time of consideration — pending licenses will not be accepted
  • \n
  • Required certifications (active, not pending): BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
  • \n
  • A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration
  • \n
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • \n
Additional Information\n

  • Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts: 2 on L&D and 1 on Mother-Baby (MB)
  • \n
  • Charge nurses are available and will triage patients; OB techs function as aides when no active cases
  • \n
  • Anesthesia is available 24/7 (typically in-house; may be up to 20 minutes away); approximately 90% of patients elect for epidurals
  • \n
  • Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; pharmacy hours are 7am–10:30pm with satellite service after hours
  • \n
  • Unit uses Hugs and Kisses infant security system; lactation nurses are on staff during the day and document care plans on patient whiteboards
  • \n
  • Patient population skews higher socioeconomic status with a median maternal age of 37; higher Mandarin-speaking volume — translation services are available via Vocera phones
  • \n
  • All staff assist with triage and NST
  • \n
  • Hospital provides ceil blue scrubs
  • \n
  • Holiday rotation required — one of every three major holidays
  • \n
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
