Job Description
Harmony Hill School (HHS), a private, non-profit organization providing residential and day treatment services to adolescent males, is seeking Weekend Assistant Counselors to join our team of dedicated, caring professionals. Our beautiful school campus is located in Glocester, RI, just a 20-30 minute commute from many towns in the RI, CT, MA area.
We're currently hiring Part and Full Time Youth Care Assistant Counselors to work ON SITE directly with youth to provide active supervision, care and guidance as they navigate their daily routines. You will provide behavior management, accountability and teach problem-solving and life skills in our trauma-informed setting. Daily work duties will be coordinated by the Supervisor or Counselor of your assigned unit.
Part time schedule would 2 weekend shifts (Sat and Sun). Full time work is also available as 40 hours with three evening shifts (3-11pm) during the week along with two shifts on the weekends (one day, one evening).
Youth Care Assistant Counselors receive a competitive benefits package, generous time off benefits, and a starting hourly pay rate of $20.50+ depending on your education background and unit assignment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Promote a positive environment focusing on personal safety, respect and responsibility.
- Effectively care for, supervise, and counsel youth. Manage crises and emergencies as needed.
- Guide youth in their interactions, utilizing Collaborative Problem Solving principles, and role-modeling appropriate communication and conduct.
- Follow the daily program schedule and adhere to youth treatment plan guidelines.
- Observe, redirect and manage behavioral issues. Follow agency guidelines to restrain a youth when necessary for safety reasons.
- Clearly and completely record all pertinent information in the daily activity and communication logs.
Skills & Attributes:
- Must be able to interact well with others in a supportive environment.
- Strong interpersonal communication, conflict management and de-escalation skills.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and residential treatment best practices.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of youth, families, and professionals. Possess a knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. College degree or current course enrollment in a related field is strongly preferred.
- 1+ years of youth care work experience is required. Experience working with youth in the care of the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) is strongly preferred;
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Physical requirements of this position include: frequent standing, sitting, walking; occasional running; lifting of up to 20 lbs.
- Must have the ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques including youth restraint when necessary.
- Must successfully complete required driving record, criminal, and child abuse/neglect pre-employment screenings and maintain favorable results during employment.
