About the DepartmentPosition Duties

This is a service position responsible for patrolling parking lots on campus, issuing parking citations, assisting people parking on campus, and performing other work related to traffic and security on campus. Works under close supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Manager of Parking Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent is required.


No direct experience is required. Valid Texas driver’s license is required at time of employment.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Patrols the campus on foot, on a bicycle or in a vehicle.
  2. Issues parking citations and reports all infractions of regulations to the university police department.
  3. Works information booth at campus entrance to direct traffic and issue visitor permits as needed.
  4. Unlocks, jump starts, and applies wheel clamps to vehicles.
  5. Operates golf cart or ATV and/or serves as parking attendant for special events.
  6. Directs the parking of cars for special events.
  7. May work evening and weekend shifts as needed.
  8. Operates assigned equipment in a safe manner and in adherence to all university and departmental policies as well as local, state, and federal laws.
  9. Reports all traffic-related emergencies to university police dispatcher.
  10. Conducts daily vehicle inspections as required and performs routine vehicle maintenance such as filling gas tank when needed, checking tire pressure, and checking fluid levels.
  11. Maintains cleanliness of equipment assigned during shift.
  12. Reports any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance or safety issues immediately to appropriate personnel.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. May work in the parking services office when needed.
  2. Assists university, city, county, and state police officers as needed.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.  

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures, including traffic and parking regulations.
  2. Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and maintenance.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  4. Ability to identify, report, and respond accordingly to emergencies.
  5. Ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressure and/or unpredictable persons.
  6. Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with university faculty and staff, students, visitors, and the general public.
  7. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  8. Ability to promote a favorable image of the university.
  9. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license.
  10. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
  11. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
