The ideal candidate is a highly skilled journey-level professional with a minimum of four years of industrial painting experience, including the application of industrial primers, protective coatings, and specialty finishes. This individual demonstrates extensive hands-on expertise painting a wide range of interior and exterior surfaces, including buildings, structural components, machinery, and equipment such as preparing and painting pumps, motors, pipes, transformers, tanks, valves, parking lots, and other industrial or facility assets.

This role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively on larger, more complex projects. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of managing assignments efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship and professionalism.

INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, and background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, utilizes multiple preparation techniques and applies special primers and industrial coatings to motors, pumps, piping and other equipment; prepares and paints a wide variety of exterior and interior surfaces of District buildings, structures, equipment, machinery and facilities; provides lead work direction and guidance to other painters; and performs related duties as required.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

Knowledge of:

Practices, methods, tools and equipment used in preparing and applying paint to a wide variety of building, machinery and equipment surfaces; techniques for multi-surface preparation, including masking, sanding, sandblasting, de-glossing and de-greasing; techniques and principles of matching paint colors, including primary colors, tinting capabilities and reading color specifications; appropriate uses of special primers, rust inhibitors and industrial coatings on a variety of surfaces; practices and techniques of hanging and patching drywall, including textures and leveling finishes; use of technical monitor devices for use on surface areas, including temperature monitors and gauges to determine coating thickness; safe working practices related to the work; District and local guidelines, codes and rules applicable to work, including SSPC and NACE.

Ability to:

Properly apply paint and other surface coats to a wide variety of interior and exterior building surfaces, machinery, pipes and other equipment and facilities; repair and prepare a variety of surfaces for painting; operate manlifts, cranes, paint shakers, automobile ladders and scaffolds; read and understand instrument monitors, charts, blueprints and color specifications; work independently and exercise sound judgment in performing assignments; understand and follow oral and written instructions; prepare basic records and reports of work performed; operate and maintain hand and power tools pertaining to the work; follow safety practices and procedures pertaining to the work.

Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is four years of skilled journey-level industrial painting experience, including the use of industrial primers and coatings.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

A valid Nevada driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
