Job Title:DF AY25/26 Justice & Advocacy InternJob Description:This position is available for undergraduate students with junior or senior standing. This position MUST have at least one year of prior experience with justice and advocacy work, including attendance at IFTJ. This is a departmentally funded position for up to 6 hours/week.

The Office of University Ministry creates a welcoming environment, accompanying our campus community on their varied spiritual journeys, and promotes opportunities to explore the connection between justice and spiritual identity. This position will support UMins’ efforts to engage the campus community in justice and advocacy work, taking particular responsibility for partnering with Ignatian Solidarity Network as well as supporting the Faith, Justice and Belonging Summit. The intern must be prepared to work with multiple programs (both internal and external to Regis), engage with peers to provide justice and advocacy education, research legislation and public policy, and develop strategies for engaging the campus community on a variety of justice and advocacy topics and activities.

MAJOR DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Serve as the student lead for implementing programming from the Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN), which may include but are not limited to: 

  • Ignatian Advocacy Madness (spring) 

  • Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice recruiting and preparation (fall) 

  • Collaborate with pro-staff leadership from multiple Regis U department for planning and executing the Faith, Justice, and Belonging Summit 

  • Assist with identifying and contacting presenters in advance of summit 

  • Develop advertising and recruiting initiatives to encourage student participation 

  • Lead breakout sessions during the summit 

  • Support other duties as assigned 

  • Partner with UMin Pro-staff in preparation and execution of Denver Advocacy Day 

  • Participate in regular meetings and mentorship with staff from Ignatian Solidarity Network 

  • Identify ways to encourage student participation in justice and advocacy work 

  • Collaborate with other departments and student-led initiatives to advance justice and advocacy work on campus 

  • Attend regular mentor meetings with UMin supervisor, ISN mentor and attend monthly UMin All-Staff meetings 

 

ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES –

  • Move efficiently and willingly between multiple tasks 

  • Be willing to ask questions as necessary 

  • Work effectively and responsibly without close supervision after receiving instructions 

  • Be punctual, dependable, and honest 

  • Answer questions, both directional and informational, in a friendly, patient manner 

  • Communicate clearly, efficiently, and respectfully both in-person and electronically 

  • Utilize MS Office Suite, including Office 365 and Google Suite occasionally 

  • Work collaboratively with other student ministers, staff and other departments 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • One year experience in justice and advocacy work (or related coursework), including attendance at IFTJ.  A passion for social justice, a desire to accompany peers and an openness to serve all students, regardless of their faith, political or social backgrounds, required. 

  • Student interns can expect to work occasional evenings 

  • Applicants do not need to be Catholic but must be open to learning about and respecting Catholic Social Teaching, Jesuit tradition and values related to a “faith that does justice” and stances of the Catholic Church.

These positions are benefits-eligible for workers’ compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
