This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly salary. Salary will be determined on education and experience at the time of offer.
NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, performs complex legal clerical work in support of the operations of the Justice Court; serves as lead worker as required; this position has department specific responsibility.
Position Duties
(Illustrative Only) Receives and prepares posting of fine bonds, creates and maintain bond report, tracking hold receipts and disbursing of monies other monies; coordinates court calendar; creates and updates cases and case files manually and in the automation system; checks documents for completeness; issues Court processes; provides assistance with greeting customers at the front desk, answers inquiries regarding civil, criminal and civil traffic cases, provides information or directs visitors; performs a variety of general office support duties (i.e., makes copies, prints, collates, scan documents, maintains calendar of activities, schedules meetings; processes mail including receiving, sorting, time stamping, logging, and distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence and packages; sets cases for hearing, trial or other court proceedings; maintains record of court procedures; prepares reports; assists in court case management; serves as court clerk as required in hearings, trials and other courtroom proceedings; assists in the handling of paperwork, issuance of court processes and orders, and other post-court activities; sets and resets subsequent court dates; undertakes and completes other tasks resulting from court proceedings; enters order of protections, injunctions against harassment, and injunctions against work place harassment; may create and updates new forms for cases specific; may provide administrative support, if needed; may act as a bailiff when court is in session; maintains absolute confidentiality of cases and victim information; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent; and two (2) years of Justice Court legal clerical work experience; OR five (5) years of clerical, secretarial, customer service, paralegal or closely related work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; requires successful completion of a background check.
Other Qualifications
Knowledge of: Applicable State Statutes, court rules and administrative orders; Yuma County policies and procedures; court procedures, legal terminology and business English; rules and regulations regarding jury activity and courtroom behavior; principles and practices of supervision and skills training; bookkeeping methods and accounting principles; modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Skill in: Operating office equipment; preparing clear and comprehensive written and statistical reports; establishing effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; following written and verbal instructions; communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to: Effectively respond to phone calls, emails and complaints in a timely manner; plan, prioritizes, manages and responds to multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; read, write, research, synthesizes data and detailed reports; use modern office equipment and computers; communicate effectively verbally and written; lift up to 5 – 25 lbs; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment and may have risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
