SUMMARY:
Position : Bus Aide
Description : The position provides support within the student transportation services area, with specific responsibilities for ensuring students are safely, efficiently, and timely transported over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions and ensuring students' safety during transport, loading, and unloading from buses.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Job-related experience is preferred.
First Aide/CPR is preferred
Training in special needs is preferred
Required Testing: Pre-employment Physical Exam
Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background and Family Care Safety Registry Clearance
Continuing Educ. / Training: School Required Behavior Management; CPR/First Aide; Attend All Required In-Service Training
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to assist students by providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and other staff members to implement safe riding habits, behavior, and bus plans for students.
Ability to properly restrain students following school procedures if required.
Ability to work with students and encourage, train, and reinforce appropriate behavior and safe riding.
Ability to adapt to changes and behaviors to meet the student’s needs.
Ability to interact positively with students and model appropriate behavior.
Ability to provide escort and assistance to students as necessary.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and other information shared about students.
Attend unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc., for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
Redirect students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and wellbeing.
Monitor and supervise students until released to a teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc., to ensure the safe transportation of all passengers.
Prepares reports (e.g., incident reports, passenger conduct, etc.) to document activities, provide written references, convey information, and/or comply with established guidelines.
Report observations and/or incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) to communicate information to appropriate personnel for their action.
Ability to be flexible in changing assignments and duties with little to no notice.
Ability to work with students with behavioral, medical, ambulatory, and other special needs.
Ability to work with daily stressors such as inappropriate verbal and physical behaviors.
Ability to operate specialized equipment such as wheelchair lifts.
Ability to inspect and utilize various child safety restraint systems (CSRS), including wheelchair securements.
Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
The employee is regularly required to do significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; significant fine finger dexterity; and sense of smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee is required to move about a moving vehicle to meet the needs of the students, requiring the ability to balance and coordinate movements.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus, and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, 5% standing, and 5% crouching/kneeling.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
