The Position

At Headfirst, we design fun, intentional, and transformational camp experiences where every camper feels seen, known, and celebrated. Growth doesn’t happen by accident—it happens by design. Through thoughtfully planned activities and trained staff, we create what we call Headfirst Moments: when a camper tries something new, pushes through fear, and realizes, “I can do it.”

The Safety/First Aid & Camp Operations Coordinator manages all aspects of the Headfirst camp experience related to the health and well-being of campers and staff. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, careful management of camper medication, oversight of all safety procedures and policies, communicating safety updates to families and Headquarters as needed, and the safekeeping of confidential camper and staff information.  This person will provide smooth and efficient operation of their site by ensuring all setup and break down of site is completed in a timely manner.

 

Camper ages: 5-12 years old

Activities include: field & court sports including basketball, soccer, floor hockey, flag football; PE-style games consisting of hungry hippos and capture the flag; mental agility and mindset; tournament competitions; team spirit activities

Role Information

Schedule:

In-season (late June through mid August): 7:15 am – 3:30 pm Monday – Friday

Pre-season (early June): select weekends for training and site preparation

 

Compensation:  $19.00 / hour

What You'll Do
  • Daily Responsibilities
    • Review daily medication, sunscreen, and allergy reports to anticipate campers who need individual care plans and personalized medication fanny packs
    • Be the first responder for all safety-related issues and injuries on site, as well as low and high priority emergency medical situations, utilizing CPR/First Aid training as necessary
    • Act as the on-site expert on Headfirst’s safety protocols on medication administration, bathroom procedures, and emergency medications for both campers and staff
    • Nurture physical and emotional safety by forming close connections to campers and provide support when campers need help
    • Maintain safety and first aid material inventory, communicating with when inventory needs refreshing
    • Execute morning and afternoon carpool as a key player, welcoming each family to camp by name with top notch Headfirst-level energy and coordinated carpool procedures where you will manage the check-in table
    • Own the set-up and break-down of camp logistics, and delegate duties such as tent and signage set-up to water cooler filling and delivery to inflating (and deflating) bounce houses
    • Inventory and organize key operational supplies including popsicles, t-shirts for staff and campers, tents, coolers, sunscreen, signage, and paper goods
    • With support from other leadership team members, pack camper t-shirt bags correctly and ensure the timely hand out of these take-homes each week
    • Hold the team accountable for taking care of our camp community and facility (including fields, buildings, classrooms, and bathrooms)
  • Communicate Proactively
    • Train and retrain your team of counselors, specialists, and program leaders on safety concerns and procedures, providing dynamic, specific feedback and support to keep them growing
    • Act as the bridge from camp to families, diligently reporting safety incidents and supporting the associated communication home
    • Communicate materials needs to Headfirst Headquarters to ensure proper inventory onsite for upcoming programs
  • Be an Active Member of the Camp Team
    • Arrive on time, communicate schedule changes promptly, be a loyal and consistent team member who shows up for the campers and your team
  • Represent Headfirst for Families & Facility Partners
    • Represent the Headfirst brand daily to families at carpool and to school facility partners throughout the summer by being enthusiastic, hands-on, helpful, and in uniform
    • Actively participate in our efforts to take care of our camp facility and lead your team to do the same
  • Handle the Curveballs

Practice resiliency and arrive with a “How Can I Help?” mentality that puts camper experience and team success at the forefront through problem solving and trying new things

About You

About You: Must be at least 20 years old with at least (2) years at an undergraduate institution or equivalent professional experience.

  • Experience:
    • Majors in pre-medicine, nursing, or sports medicine viewed favorably.
  • Must be able to:
    • Work around small children including, sitting, standing, running, and climbing stairs for the full day.
    • Work in hot and outdoor environments while actively supervising campers and participating in dynamic activities for extended periods of time.
    • Lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally.
    • Committed to adhering to the Cell-Phone Free policy, powering down and putting away cell phones in a locked pouch for the duration of your shift.
  • Required Certification
    • First Aid & CPR Certification, or the ability to complete these prior to May 30.
