Position Overview:

The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Transit Operator - Part-Time/Seasonal

The Transit Operator - Part-Time/Seasonal is responsible for operating an Avon Transit bus in a safe, professional, and timely manner, to provide dependable, friendly transportation for residents and guests. Transports passengers, documents ridership levels, and provides a high degree of customer service and information to the riding public. 



Essential Functions:

1. Performs routes within the Town of Avon limits, short-notice trips within town limit to assist medically qualifying passengers with Avon Para transit service prescheduled charter and special events routes, which may extend outside town limits.

2. Operates vehicles, large (36 ft.) buses, and medium cut-away sized “people-movers” (e.g. 25 ft.), trolley-style buses, commercial vans, SUVs and other vehicles, consistent with UTC licensing requirements.

3. Acts as integral part of the residential and guest experience, greets passengers, clearly announces arrivals and departures at each stop and provides visitor information.

4. Performs scheduled pre- and post-trip inspections, including conducting an external/internal visual inspection of the transit bus and pre-testing all necessary equipment, operating/safety devices and controls for use while in service including fluid level, tire pressure, and turn signals.

5. Restocks the bus with schedules and printed information.

6. Employs defensive driving and skilled winter driving techniques and attends all required safety meetings.

7. Tracks and submits to management accurate information for scheduling, daily reports and trip sheets.

8. Completes required tracking and incident reports accurately and legibly as necessary at the end of scheduled shifts.

9. Conducts self in an appropriate manner as representative of the Town of Avon, works effectively in a diverse work environment, uses prudent judgment at all times.


Other Duties and Functions:
1. Sweeps, empties trash, performs a visual inspection for lost items and conducts re-fueling and washing 
of transit vehicles at the end of service
2. Trains new and relief operators as required
3. Logs in and bids shift and route schedules electronically and consistently with the Town’s requirements 
for full-time employees
4. Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) with 3 years Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) driving experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.
  • Must possess a CDL permit or CDL license or obtain within 3 weeks of hire date, non-conditional
