American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week PCU/Stepdown night shift position at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring active NE or Compact RN licensure and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Details- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown setting within an acute care hospital
- Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring
- Patient ratio of 1:4–5 RNs to patients, supported by patient care techs at a 1:10 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
- EMR system: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
- 35-bed unit with a Charge Nurse present each shift (Charge Nurse carries an assignment)
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Epic EMR experience
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity — candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- Orientation consists of one week of onboarding followed by 1–2 days of unit-specific floor orientation
- A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure to pass results in contract termination
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments — refusal to remove nails will result to contract termination
- RTO must be submitted upfront; a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract will be considered — additional RTO will not be approved
- This is a fast-paced unit; successful candidates typically demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication skills, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving abilities
- Scrub or dress code: artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas
