Position Synopsis:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist to provide occupational therapy services to Elderhaus PACE participants. This role focuses on implementing treatment plans, assisting with functional assessments, and supporting participants in achieving independence and quality of life.
Essential Duties:
- Implement treatment programs designed by the Occupational Therapist and collaborate to identify measurable functional outcomes.
- Assist with obtaining objective measurements for assessments as assigned.
- Observe and report participant progress and pertinent information to the OT.
- Provide regular updates to the interdisciplinary team and assist with care plan revisions and discharge planning.
- Educate staff, participants, and caregivers on the role and limitations of the COTA.
- Recommend and report issuance of durable medical equipment (DME) needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to occupational therapy practice laws.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement efforts.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, infection control, and confidentiality standards.
Education & Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program with current OTA certification.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Minimum one year of experience working with a geriatric population preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate professionally.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and behavioral needs of the elderly population.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
