About the Role
The Special Procedure Technologist plays a vital role in performing invasive and interventional cardiac and special procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Working under the direct supervision of the Cath Lab Clinical Lead, this technologist collaborates closely with physicians, patients, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care across all age groups. This position demands strong technical expertise, compassionate patient interaction, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Job Duties
Perform all invasive and interventional cardiac and special procedures for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients, following department policies.
Complete studies efficiently, organize workload during high volumes, and communicate pending exams to co-workers.
Maintain and apply up-to-date skills and knowledge of radiology procedures and specialized equipment (Axiom Artis, Angiojet, ACT, Avoximeter, Balloon Pump, etc.).
Assist physicians during radiology procedures.
Foster positive relationships within the department and represent the team professionally.
Handle equipment safely, maintain clean work areas, and follow WRMC and Radiology policies.
Assist in any radiology area as needed, checking with co-workers during downtime.
Manage supplies responsibly, maintain minimal inventory, and explore new utilization methods.
Follow on-call policies by responding within required timeframes.
Adhere to attendance, tardiness, dress code, safety, and infection control policies.
Participate in mandatory hospital and department meetings and training.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiology preferred.
Licensure: Must be ARRT registered and licensed in Arkansas. BLS is required upon hire or within 30 days.
Experience: Experience with Arkansas Department of Health requirements and hospital operations.
Certification: Must obtain registry within six months of hire. Maintain current BLS, ACLS, ARRT, and Arkansas licensure.
Essential Skills & Requirements
Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and team members.
Prepare for diagnostic testing by verifying orders and patient identity, coordinating with nursing as needed.
Explain procedures thoroughly to patients and families to ease anxiety.
Obtain the highest quality imaging studies for physician interpretation.
Must be fit for duty and free from adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, certain prescriptions, or alcohol.
Physical Demands
Significant physical activity required: assisting with lifting/moving patients, pushing carts and wheelchairs, handling equipment up to 300 pounds.
Frequent walking, bending, stooping, and repetitive hand/wrist movements.
Dexterity and hand-eye coordination are essential for operating medical equipment.
Must be able to navigate halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to emergencies.
