JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Behavioral Health Technician (Lead BHT) is responsible for supporting the safety, structure, and daily operational integrity of Epiphany Wellness while providing direct leadership and support to Behavioral Health Technicians and clients. This role serves as a frontline operational leader, ensuring adherence to organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and program expectations. The Lead BHT exercises independent judgment and plays a critical role in crisis management, transportation oversight, staff supervision, and interdepartmental coordination within a multi-disciplinary behavioral healthcare environment.

As a senior member of the Operations team, the Lead BHT collaborates closely with leadership to maintain a safe, compliant, and client-centered treatment environment that supports recovery, accountability, and continuity of care.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  • Oversee daily operations related to client safety, transportation, and program structure during assigned shifts.

  • Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and support to Behavioral Health Technicians, fostering accountability, professionalism, and consistency.

  • Support crisis prevention, de-escalation, and resolution efforts while ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-up.

  • Ensure operational compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.

  • Serve as a liaison between Operations, Clinical, Medical, Admissions, Facilities, and Human Resources teams to support coordinated care delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership & Staff Oversight
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direct support to BHT staff while on shift, including coaching, guidance, and real-time corrective feedback.

  • Attend scheduled supervision meetings with the Operations Manager, bringing forward operational issues, trends, and solutions.

  • Assist with BHT onboarding, training, new hire orientations, and completion of competencies within required timeframes.

  • Maintain professional boundaries with staff, supervisors, and other departments while modeling organizational values and expectations.

Operations & Transportation Oversight
  • Oversee transportation operations, ensuring safe vehicle use, accurate logs, and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Conduct audits of operational processes including shift documentation, vehicle logs, intake and discharge workflows, and incident reporting.

  • Ensure staffing coverage is appropriate at all times, including covering shifts for direct subordinates when necessary.

Compliance, Audits & Documentation
  • Review incident reports, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with Operations leadership on follow-up and corrective actions.

  • Complete operational audits, including Behave audits, intake and discharge reviews, shift notes, vehicle logs, and incident documentation.

  • Ensure urinalysis, breathalyzer testing, medication observation, room searches, and vehicle searches are conducted and documented per protocol.

  • Maintain accurate client tracking tools, operational communication boards, and required logs.

Crisis Management & Client Support
  • Assist with client crisis management, AMA prevention, de-escalation, and appropriate referrals in accordance with established protocols.

  • Support client safety, accountability, and engagement while maintaining therapeutic boundaries.

  • Step into BHT duties as needed to maintain staffing coverage and program continuity.

Communication & Collaboration
  • Maintain consistent communication with Clinical leadership, including attending meetings, sending operational recaps, and supporting coordinated care.

  • Collaborate across departments including Facilities, Medical, Clinical, Admissions, and Human Resources.

  • Support interview scheduling, onboarding coordination, cleared driver verification, and staffing needs in partnership with HR and Operations leadership.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in on-call coverage during work hours as assigned.

  • Complete daily operational recap reports.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of program operations and organizational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Experience working in substance use disorder and/or behavioral health treatment settings preferred.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage crisis situations with professionalism and sound judgment.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, shared files).

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Requires regular use of phones and computers, including prolonged screen time.

  • Primarily sedentary work with intermittent standing, walking, and movement throughout the facility.

  • Ability to lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds occasionally.

  • Repetitive hand and wrist motions related to documentation and computer use.

  • Must meet vision, hearing, and communication requirements necessary for safe client interaction and transportation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is primarily conducted in a clinical outpatient behavioral health setting.

  • Frequent interaction with clients experiencing substance use and co-occurring behavioral health challenges.

  • Environment may be emotionally demanding and requires professionalism, empathy, and resilience.

  • Requires strict adherence to confidentiality, HIPAA, and organizational privacy standards.

  • Collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians, nurses, physicians, and administrative staff.

  • Schedule flexibility may be required, including evenings and weekends.

  • Work occurs in proximity to medical testing environments such as urine and breathalyzer screening, with minimal risk when protocols are followed.
