- Supervise all custodial functions performed by building custodians.
- Oversee the set up and upkeep of all events in the assigned building.
- Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the building.
- Perform cleaning as needed.
- Submit requisitions for supplies and equipment to the facilities director.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Report maintenance needs to be done by the facilities director.
- Check to see that all heating, cooling, refrigeration, freezers, plumbing, air-conditioning, electrical and mechanical systems are operating properly.
- Maintain compliance with fire-safety regulations, building ordinances, and playground safety requirements.
- Inspect the building for vandalism and structural damage.
- Responsible for safe work habits of the custodians.
- Maintain fire extinguishers and alarms in working order.
- Assist groundskeeper, general mechanic and HVAC personnel as needed.
- Because the Head Custodian is visible to the public, attire should be neat and clean, as the job will allow. Hair and beard shall be neatly trimmed. Clothing shall consist of long trousers and a shirt with sleeves, socks and shoes. Clothing which is ragged, badly torn or contains offensive language or symbols is not allowed. During the summer, when students are not in attendance, knee length trousers and short sleeve shirts are permitted.
- Other such duties as assigned by the building principal or supervisor.
- Coordinate staffing for various activities with the Director of Facilities.
- Remove snow and ice as necessary to provide a safe environment at all entrances of assigned property.
- Provide and maintain inspections of playgrounds for compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas.
- Observe district policies at all times.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Work a variety of hours in order to perform duties.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or District Administrative Staff.
- High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance with similar work environment desirable.
- IL Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others and work in a team environment.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts.
- Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).

Job Title: Head Custodian
Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Facilities
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Days: 260 day work calendar. Estimated work schedule 6:30am-3:00p (8.0 hours).
Pay Range: $17.25-$22.25 per hour (based on experience) plus $0.10/hour per full-time employee on the Middle School Custodial Team. Offer also include School Board paid IMRF pension, paid vacation days, and benefits options are available.
