Position Overview
The HDT (High-Dosage Tutoring) Lead Tutor is a unique hybrid role that combines direct student instruction with peer leadership and operational support. This position serves as a bridge between frontline tutoring and district leadership, maintaining classroom credibility while providing essential guidance and support to fellow tutors.
Work Environment
- This is a part-time M-F position; availability during school hours required with evenings as needed by the business
- Ability to travel to assigned schools within the district

Tutoring Days
- Provide high-quality, individualized tutoring sessions to assigned students
- Maintain detailed session notes and track student progress
- Implement evidence-based literacy instruction techniques
- Observe and note the challenges faced by other tutors for leadership insights
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff as needed
Leadership Days
- Tutor Support & Mentorship: Serve as the first line of support for tutor questions and challenges
- Quality Assurance: Conduct school visits for informal observations and review session notes
- Data Collection & Analysis: Gather insights and identify patterns
- Scheduling Coordination: Manage tutor absences, reassignments, and coverage needs
- Resource Support: Conduct Q&A sessions to help tutors understand, access, and utilize appropriate instructional materials
- Issue Resolution: Handle non-critical problems before escalation to leadership
- Respond to tutor questions during work hours
- Communicate school issues and needs with leadership
- Maintain high-quality tutoring standards on instruction days
- Provide timely, solution-oriented support to fellow tutors
- Submit weekly communication updates to the Director of Operations
- Build and maintain positive relationships with school staff
- Identify patterns and trends to support program improvement
- Handle escalations appropriately and efficiently
- Learn the curriculum and collaborate with the curriculum specialist on implementation
- Dirictor of Operations: Strategic partner providing weekly updates and insights
- Fellow Tutors: Peer coach and mentor using a collaborative approach
- School Staff: Professional liaison including principals, teachers, and administrative staff
- Students: Direct instructor maintaining high-quality tutoring standards
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Literacy, or related field preferred
- Experience in tutoring, teaching, or educational support roles
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to coach and mentor peers effectively
- Proficiency with educational technology and data collection
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Dual-Role Management: Ability to transition effectively between tutoring and leadership responsibilities
- Peer Leadership: Coach colleagues using a collaborative, solution-focused approach
- Communication: Provide clear, regular updates to the District Manager and maintain professional school relationships
- Data Synthesis: Transform observations into actionable insights and recommendations
- Problem-Solving: Handle routine issues independently while knowing when to escalate
- Professional Judgment: Make appropriate decisions within defined boundaries
- Ability to drive regularly to multiple school locations and navigate school buildings
- Ability to sit for extended periods to perform office work and operate standard office equipment including computers and printers
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and to see and hear adequately to perform essential job functions
