Position Overview:

The Survey Technician is responsible for surveying assignments in support of the needs of the mine. The Survey Technician is responsible for learning the use of survey equipment (GPS and Total Station), survey drone flights, multiple software programs, and dirt lab sample preparations. In addition, the Survey Technician works closely with multiple work groups to ensure all survey tasks meet industry standards at our mining and processing site in Mountain Pass, California, approximately 50 miles south of Las Vegas.

• Interact with multiple teams to develop technical knowledge
• Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to surveying
• Collaborates with management and peers to identify and analyze business requirements and the implications for the team; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions
• Identifies opportunities to enhance performance and develops strategies to overcome challenges and barriers while minimizing risk
• Implements approved recommendations for maximizing operational efficiencies
• Proposes new work approaches, methods, and policies to optimize performance and ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards
• Complete any other tasks as needed or as directed by management
• Carrying out topographical, volumetric, and boundary surveys.
• Set up and maintain survey equipment, such as GPS, and total stations.
• Record survey data accurately and help with plotting data points on maps.
• Assist with mine site mapping, pit surveys, and surface measurements.

 Basic Qualifications:

• GED/High School Diploma
• Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required to drive company vehicles on property.
• Drone 107 licensing preferred (if no license, it must be obtained within 1 year)

 Desired Qualities:

• Current MSHA part 46 or part 48 trained
• Basic understanding of open pit mining operations 
• Basic working knowledge of safety rules and regulations
• Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, understand and speak English
• Be able to work well with others and adapt to a changing environment
• Intermediate computer skills functionality
• Basic understand of Trimble GPS systems
• Dependable and willingness to learn

(PPE) Personal Protective Equipment is required when performing work in a mine, manufacturing, outdoor, or plant environment. Required PPE may include, but is not limited to, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.

Working Conditions - Our facility sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. Employees may be subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting (heat and cold, wind). Work is at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, which may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.

Physical Demands - Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing – all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing – distant/near; depth perception; color vision. While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
