Scovill Zoo - Summer Camp Counselor - Part-time

Scovill Zoo is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team for the summer. The Summer Camp Counselors will lead a variety of educational summer camp programs. The successful candidate for this position will ensure that all programming presented is engaging, innovative and effective, as determined by evaluation and in direct support of the mission of Scovill Zoo.

The daily duties of the position are as follows:

• Deliver educational content about nature, wildlife, and conservation through formal classroom discussion and on grounds activities
• Lead group games
• Help participants complete crafts and projects
• Supervise snack time
• Lead participants through the zoo and behind-the-scenes areas
• Maintain proper protocol and procedures required for all zoo interactions with animals, visitors, and program participants

This position is considered an hourly, seasonal position ($16/hr). Training will start end of May and camps begin June 1 and run until July 24. This position requires working Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm, with weekends off. Pay: $15/hour

Requirements: Must love kids and be comfortable around different species of animals. Previous camp experience, and a college education with ed/science courses are strongly preferred, along with First Aid and CPR certification. Must have the ability to access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment, carry out animal related lesson plans, lead theme related games and crafts, and keep records.
