Position Summary
The HR Generalist will serve as the sole HR professional and play a critical role in building and managing core HR functions. This is a hands-on, operational role focused on supporting employees and leadership while establishing HR processes, improving communication, and ensuring compliance. This role is ideal for a proactive HR professional who enjoys building structure, improving systems, and being a trusted resource for employees and managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all HR-related matters
- Establish and maintain HR documentation, employee files, and system accuracy
- Oversee and administer payroll, timesheets, and time & attendance in Paychex (in coordination with the bookkeeper)
- Conduct exit interviews and track trends
- Manage full-cycle recruiting for open roles
- Coordinate hiring, offer letters, and onboarding processes
- Improve onboarding experience, including welcome letters and communication flow
- Administer employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, sick time, and FSA
- Serve as liaison with benefits providers and answer employee questions
- Support employee relations matters and day-to-day HR guidance
- Assist with policy development, handbook updates, and HR compliance
- Help establish HR audits and compliance processes as the company grows
- Ensure adherence to applicable employment laws and healthcare-related regulations
- Identify gaps in HR processes and implement scalable solutions
- Partner with leadership to support company growth and workforce planning
- Act as a trusted advisor to management and employees
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of progressive HR Generalist experience
- Experience supporting growing organizations, preferably as a standalone HR professional
- Strong working knowledge of payroll, benefits, recruiting, and employee relations
- Experience with Paychex or similar HRIS/payroll systems
- Knowledge of federal and state employment laws
- SHRM, PHR, or similar certification preferred but not required
