We are conducting gas meter upgrades in the San Antonio, TX areas for CPS and are hiring Full Time Gas Meter Painters! NO EXPERIENCE is required with paid training at $24/hour! If you consider yourself an independent worker and enjoy being outside, this job is for you!
All of our field staff are provided with:
- Safety gear including company boot (allowance), vests, glasses, etc.
- Paid Training
- Company provided vehicle
About the Job:
The Gas Meter Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and maintaining the exterior appearance and visibility of utility meters and related equipment. This role ensures meters are properly marked, protected from corrosion, and compliant with company and regulatory standards. The position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions and requires attention to detail, safety awareness, and physical stamina.
Responsibilities:
- Clean, prepare, and paint utility meters, meter boxes, pipes, and related equipment
- Apply coatings, primers, and paints according to specifications and safety guidelines
- Ensure proper color coding, labeling, and visibility of meters
- Inspect meters and surrounding areas for damage, corrosion, or safety issues and report findings
- Use hand tools, brushes, rollers, and spray equipment safely and effectively
- Follow all safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition
- Complete required documentation, work orders, and reports accurately
- Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, and other field personnel as needed
- Comply with all company policies, environmental regulations, and local codes
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings: drug test, background check, and driving record
- Must be able to walk up to 10-15 miles per day, outdoors in all-weather environments
- Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs. of force unassisted.
- Previous painting, maintenance, or utility-related experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of surface preparation and painting techniques
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong attention to detail and quality of work
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions and Hours:
- Monday to Thursday from 7:00 AM to around 5:30 PM CST. Potential to work some Fridays and Saturdays.
- Outdoor work environment
- Little supervision to give you freedom to work independently and manage your own day
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Successfully complete the company’s training program and pass applicable written and field tests
- Learn and apply safety measure relating to motor vehicle operation and other field related matters
