Lien Negotiator (Attorney Liens)


Based in Los Angeles, BD&J is California’s leading personal injury law firm, with over $2 billion recovered for our clients, and we are currently seeking a skilled and persistent Lien Negotiator to join the team. The Lien Negotiator is responsible for negotiating attorney liens on cases referred out to outside firms. This role works closely with the Disengagements team to ensure the firm receives its fair share.

 The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, confident in negotiations with other law firms, and experienced in protecting firm revenue through strategic lien resolution.

  • Responsibilities include:
    Negotiate attorney liens with outside law firms on referred-out cases to ensure equitable fee distribution.
  • Review referral agreements, fee-splitting arrangements, and lien documentation to confirm compliance and accuracy.
  • Communicate directly with attorneys and legal staff at other firms to resolve lien disputes professionally and efficiently.
  • Track and manage lien negotiations to ensure timely resolution and payment.
  • Identify discrepancies or unfavorable terms and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of negotiations, agreements, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure proper disbursement of funds.
  • Ensure all negotiations align with firm policies, ethical rules, and applicable regulations.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with Personal Injury.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a high caseload and prioritize effectively
  • Experience with legal case management systems and Microsoft Office
