Climbing Wall Attendant

POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Climbing Wall Attendant supervises the daily activities at the climbing wall to provide a safe and friendly climbing environment for patrons to enjoy the benefits of indoor rock climbing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Know and enforce all climbing wall policies and procedures.
• Handle member concerns effectively and with respect.
• Visually inspect equipment and facility during opening and closing of the wall and report any problems immediately.
• Provide supervision of climbing wall participants to include belaying, auto belaying and spotting climbers.
• Provide climbing instruction following YMCA established curriculum.
• Belay climbers as needed.
• Provide assistance to climbers by:
  • determining the eligibility of individuals to use the climbing wall
  • teaching/demonstrating proper use of climbing equipment (harnesses, belay devices, shoes, etc.)
  • maintaining accurate and current records of attendance, equipment inventory, and a list of those certified to belay
• Accurately complete and file all required forms and checklists.
• Must know and understand emergency procedures to be able to respond to accidents of varying severity.
