About the Role
The Shipping and Receiving Lead is a hands-on leader responsible for coordinating daily shipping and receiving operations, while actively working alongside the team. This role supports cross-departmental collaboration, trains and develops employees, drives continuous improvement, tracks key performance indicators (KPIs), and ensures compliance with safety standards and company policies.
What You’ll Do
- Perform and oversee outbound shipping and inbound receiving operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with procedures and specifications.
- Verify inventory, documentation, and product condition during receiving and shipping processes.
- Coordinate workflow to meet daily operational priorities and deadlines.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments (Production, Quality, Customer Service) to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams regarding orders, delays, or operational concerns.
- Serve as a working leader, actively participating in daily operations while leading by example.
- Train new and existing employees on processes, equipment, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and feedback to team members.
- Support employee engagement, accountability, and adherence to performance expectations.
- Identify operational issues and inefficiencies through observation and data analysis.
- Utilize problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques to address recurring issues.
- Implement and support improvements related to process flow, productivity, accuracy, and quality.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support standard work development.
- Track, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, productivity, accuracy, and on-time delivery.
- Communicate performance results to leadership and team members.
- Use KPI data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and corrective actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all safety rules, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct safety observations and reinforce safe work practices.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently.
- Report safety concerns, incidents, or near misses promptly and participate in corrective actions.
- Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and relevant publications to maintain knowledge of operations, and regulations.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the team, department, or organizational objectives.
