About this job

Primary Function: Under the supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist, the Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) provides services to students with disabilities in accordance with IEP goals; assists in case management of services to students; maintains records and documentation. The SLPA focuses on developing students’ oral communication skills to support their ability to access their educational program.

 

Essential Function:

Under the supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist, the SLPA will:

  • Provide direct treatment to students with speech-language impairments
  • Conduct speech-language screening using age-appropriate screening protocols developed by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
  • Develop and implement educationally-based IEP communication goals using a variety of service delivery models to support the classroom curriculum
  • Follow and implement treatment plans
  • Document student progress towards meeting established goals and objectives
  • Assist SLP in conducting formal assessments, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties for a supervising SLP
  • Participate in IEP meetings of students on assigned caseload
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure that students meet the goals outlined in their IEPs
  • Provide individualized classroom strategies to facilitate specific communication skills
  • Communicate with families of students on assigned caseload regarding progress toward IEP goals
  • Participate as a member of the Special Education team
  • Manage special projects as they relate to Special Education

Communications

  • Communicate effectively, both orally & in writing, with students, parents, & other professionals routinely.
  • Respond to parent and colleague communications in a respectful and timely manner.
  • Complete and submit weekly lesson plans to supervisor and involved colleagues in a timely manner.
  • Complete and submit quarterly progress reports and/or narratives in a timely manner.
  • Participate professionally in scheduled meetings (grade level; faculty; Whole Child Assessments; Professional Development, etc.).

Professionalism and Teamwork

  • Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.
  • Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in other school programs when necessary.
