Position Summary

The Buyer is responsible for executing purchasing and outside processing activities to support production schedules, customer requirements, and quality standards in an aerospace manufacturing environment. This role serves as a key liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery, cost control, and AS9100 compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a logistics and purchasing coordinator to ensure all purchasing and outside processing activities align with customer requirements and production schedules.
  • Create, issue, and maintain purchase orders, ensuring pricing accuracy and data integrity within the ERP system.
  • Provide daily status updates and clear communication to Program Managers, Production Control, and Program Planners.
  • Collaborate with Quality to ensure suppliers meet AS9100 requirements for quality, documentation, and on-time delivery.
  • Release purchase orders only to approved suppliers in accordance with the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
  • Monitor supplier performance and proactively follow up on and expedite delivery dates to support production needs.
  • Manage supplier-related issues, including delivery delays, quality concerns, and documentation discrepancies.
  • Support administrative and transactional activities such as RMAs, warranty claims, shipping returns, and resolution of nonconforming material.
  • Work cross-functionally with Program Management, Production Control, Accounting, and Quality to resolve material and service issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support business objectives.

Key Applicant Attributes

  • 3 to 5 years of purchasing experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems (Visual preferred) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze issues, make sound decisions, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong prioritization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of materials, production processes, quality control, and cost optimization.
  • Works effectively across departments and understands the buyer’s role within the broader supply chain.
  • Proactive, dependable, and results-driven.

Job Requirements

·        Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship or valid Permanent Resident status is required.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Purchasing and/or Supply Chain certifications strongly preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in purchasing and inventory management; government or military procurement experience highly valued.
  • Ability to read and interpret aerospace blueprints.
  • High proficiency with ERP systems (Visual preferred), accounting software, and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, writing, and typing.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, grasping, twisting, bending, and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes.
