TITLE:  Instructional Materials Adoption Committee Member

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Instructional Coordinators

 

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

 

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Temporary, part-time position limited to the instructional material adoption cycle. As needed - Extracurricular assignment/contract.

 

SALARY: $40.00 per hour (up to 15 hours)

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Instructional Material Adoption Committee Member will serve as part of a collaborative team responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and recommending instructional materials for use in Jefferson County Schools. This temporary, extracurricular role ensures that adopted resources align with state standards, district goals, and the needs of diverse learners. Committees will be assigned based on the subject area to be adopted.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Review and evaluate instructional materials submitted for adoption in accordance with West Virginia Department of Education guidelines and district policies.
  2. Create/Develop instructional materials selection criteria relevant to content to be adopted
  3. Participate in scheduled committee meetings, training sessions, and review activities.
  4. Analyze materials for alignment with academic standards, relevance, accessibility, and instructional quality.
  5. Provide written and verbal feedback on instructional resources.
  6. Collaborate with other committee members to reach consensus on recommendations.
  7. Maintain confidentiality regarding materials and deliberations throughout the adoption process.
  8. Establish and implement a communications process for the adoption cycle with content teachers, LSIC, and parents.
  9. Recommend instructional materials options.
  10. Solicit appropriate grade level teachers’ choice/selection from the WV State Board official multiple lists of instructional resources. Keep for future IMAC committees as determined by instructional coordinators.
  11. Attend all committee adoption meetings and vendor presentations.
  12. Present and attend instructional materials adoption selection to the Board of Education
  13. Collect/Box return samples upon instructional materials vendor request.
  14. Participate in Professional Learning Committee meeting as determined by Instructional Programmatic Coordinator

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently employed as a full-time teacher with Jefferson County Schools with relevant instructional experience; familiarity with West Virginia content standards and curriculum frameworks; and strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.

 

Ability to establish and implement communication processes.

  • Maintain minutes of committee meetings
  • Disseminate minutes to teachers at current employed school

 

Ability to evaluate and explain instructional materials options

  • Narrow choices of instructional materials selection through input of teachers
  • Use the adoption instructional materials evaluation forms provided by the WVDE

 

Ability to recommend instructional materials

  • Attend all county instructional materials meetings, communicate information back to the school they are representing, get school consensus, and make recommendation by their school

 

Ability to attend meetings and vendor presentations

  • Attendance may be required in person and/or on a virtual vendor presentation. the vendor presentation at location TBD
  • Attend all county adoption committee meetings
  • Attend presentation of adoption to the Board of Education

 

Expected to sample instructional materials

 

  • Assemble materials to return to vendors upon request
  • Review all instructional materials (digital and print) provided

WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/ technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
