Applied Technical Services is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Evidence Technician to support the Forensics Department in managing the receipt, handling, storage, and disposition of evidence and property in accordance with established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational and prioritization skills, ensures compliance with chain-of-custody requirements, and maintains a clean, secure, and efficient work environment. This position requires a high level of integrity, professionalism, and the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance and handling of evidence, including receipt, barcoding, storage, return, destruction, and inventory in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper chain-of-custody documentation for all evidence and property transactions.
  • Photograph evidence during intake and maintain accurate visual documentation.
  • Prepare and coordinate the transportation of evidence to and from testing laboratories.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and operational evidence processing equipment and vehicles.
  • Provide departmental support during inspections, audits, and investigations.
  • Train and update staff on evidence handling best practices and department protocols.
  • Coordinate and organize evidence destruction events and maintain associated records.
  • Conduct monthly vehicle maintenance inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity for after-hours response as needed.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and protected information responsibly and in compliance with laws and policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective systems for tracking evidence management activities and invoice approvals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working safely and following best practices and regulations.
