The Research Lab Operations Intern will support Discovery Biology and Research teams by leading defined projects focused on laboratory inventory management, asset tracking, and digital documentation readiness. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in research operations while delivering tangible improvements to laboratory efficiency, compliance, and resource utilization. The intern will work cross-functionally across Research departments and own projects that directly support Cytokinetics’ drug discovery and development mission.

This is an onsite internship. Candidates must be able to work in person at the South San Francisco office.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain comprehensive consumables inventory lists across Research laboratories

  • Organize, standardize, and relabel the consumables storeroom to improve accessibility and tracking

  • Conduct full inventories of laboratory equipment stored across Research facilities

  • Identify and document equipment ownership through direct communication and internal records

  • Establish equipment retention timelines, review schedules, and lifecycle documentation

  • Assist in developing migration plans to support Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) integration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional Research teams to ensure inventory systems meet operational needs

  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and tracking related to inventory and equipment lifecycle management

  • Support Research Operations leadership with data-driven recommendations to optimize laboratory resource utilization

Qualifications

  • Have completed at least two to four years at a US college or university at the time of the program.

  • Seeking a BS/MS/PhD degree in a science related field.

  • Prior experience within a laboratory environment required

  • Prior experience in project management tools (Smartsheets, Excel) preferred.

  • Prior experience in inventory management and equipment maintenance preferred.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks in a laboratory environment, including occasional lifting of reagents, supplies, or equipment up to 30 pounds.

  • A self-starter with good communication skills, and enjoys working as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced drug discovery environment

Pay Range:

In the U.S., the hiring pay range for fully qualified candidates is $22-25/hr. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
