Peer Support Specialists work closely with a Qualified Professional (QP) to ensure high-quality, person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer-based support, mentorship, and advocacy to individuals in recovery.
- Assist individuals in developing coping strategies, natural supports, and daily living skills.
- Support individuals with community re-entry following hospitalization or treatment.
- Facilitate interventions such as:
- Self-help: Encouraging informed, independent choices.
- System advocacy: Assisting with communication and navigation of healthcare systems.
- Crisis support: Helping develop and implement crisis and recovery plans (e.g., WRAP).
- Educate individuals about resources, services, and recovery tools available in the community.
- Provide preventive and therapeutic support to promote recovery and independence.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and in compliance with agency standards.
- Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in North Carolina.
- Lived experience of mental health or substance use recovery, with demonstrated personal stability.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid NC drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to various community-based settings.
Preferred Skills - CPR, First Aid, and crisis intervention certifications.
- Familiarity with Person-Centered Planning and recovery-oriented models.
- Experience providing peer support in mental health or substance use recovery programs.
- Collaborative and supportive work environment.
