Organization: SBCS (Formerly known as South Bay Community Services)
Warehouse Location: In-person, Chula Vista CA 91910
Length: At least 6 months commitment
Hours and Days: Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Compensation: Unpaid
Reports to: VP of Business Operations

Organizational Overview:
SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services) transforms communities to support the well-being and prosperity of children, youth, and families. For more than 50 years, we’ve worked throughout San Diego to provide safe shelter, transitional housing, intervention prevention programs, mental health support, and many other services that meet the ever-changing needs of our communities.
Program & Volunteer Overview:
SBCS receives all types of donations-- clothes, furniture, toys, books, hygiene products, brand new unsold merchandise, etc. Our dedicated warehouse staff go through donations and organize a “boutique” for families to find necessary items. This includes staging items and making the space welcoming.
To support this program, we are looking for 1 long-term volunteer to help inspect, sort and process incoming donations on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Volunteers will also:
- Assist clients to shop and locate donated items.
- Input and manage data in the Effort to Outcomes (ETO) Database
- Unpack large box quantities of donated unsold merchandise.
- Assist in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining areas of warehouse.
- Sort through clothing and houseware donations.
- Help with staging items.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must pass a background check
- Other clearances, such as a TB test, may be assigned as part of the onboarding process.
- Must have the ability to follow direction and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Must have good administrative and data-entry skills such as accessing and entering data in the agency’s Efforts-to-Outcomes (ETO) database.
Work Context:
- Must wear closed-toe shoes
- Warehouse temperature can vary so volunteers should dress accordingly; we recommend volunteers dress in layers

- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 20 pounds repetitively and safely.
- Ability to transport boxes/objects from 10 to 20 lbs. across the warehouse.

- Ability to sort donated clothing and household items.
