Umpire/Referee - Full-time / Part-time

About the Department

We are currently looking to staff baseball/softball umpires for the Spring 2026 season.  Games are typically held on weeknight evenings.

Umpires and/or referees sports programs within the City's recreation department.

Position Duties

• Arrives to work no later than ten minutes to start time.
• Officiates games according to rules/regulations in proper uniform.
• Reports any incidents to Recreation Supervisor.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years of age.

Must have working knowledge of the rules of the sport(s) being officiated

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Umpire/officials certificates preferred.

Other Qualifications

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.   Ability to write simple correspondence.   Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, adults and other employees of the City.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to interpret and follow detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions.   Ability to deal with problems involving a limited number of distinct tasks and functions in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Must maintain excellent attendance and be punctual and reliable.  Must be pleasant with public, and have excellent communication skills.

Must work effectively with a team and be able to organize and perform multiple responsibilities, sometimes simultaneously, in an accurate, efficient, and responsive manner; Must be able to adapt to unexpected changes in assignments or deadlines.
