Position Title: Certified Counselor (CADC, CATC, SUDCC)
Salary: $27-32/hr


Job Summary:

The Counselor provides direct support and therapeutic services to residents and their families in a detox and residential setting. The role includes facilitating recovery-focused treatment through individual, group, and family counseling, crisis intervention, and discharge planning. The Counselor also maintains accurate and timely documentation using the agency’s Electronic Health Records (EHR) system and supports the development of treatment materials and program curriculum.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions
  • Collaborate with residents on treatment plans and recovery goals
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed
  • Educate individuals, couples, and families on recovery and behavioral health
  • Support relapse prevention and discharge planning
  • Assist with resident activities and therapeutic engagement
  • Train Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) on group facilitation
  • Supervise RADT hours and provide feedback
  • Develop group curriculum, individual assignments, and family session materials
  • Attend staff and treatment team meetings
  • Maintain resident documentation in compliance with APA, state, and federal regulations
  • Gather and document biopsychosocial histories, including mental status exams
  • Perform assessments on substance use, mental health, and social history
  • Refer to appropriate services when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to identify symptoms of substance use and co-occurring disorders
  • Strong skills in rapport building and maintaining therapeutic relationships
  • Proficient in conducting assessments and screenings
  • Ability to collaborate on treatment plans
  • Experience facilitating individual and group sessions
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Commitment to APA and CCAPP ethical codes


Qualifications:

  • Certified Counselor
  • Must be enrolled in or graduated from a state-approved program
  • Minimum of 1 year clean and sober (if in recovery)


Required Knowledge:

  • 12-Step Recovery principles
  • Group, individual, and family counseling modalities
  • Dual diagnosis and addiction treatment best practices
  • Recognizing and managing withdrawal symptoms and intoxication
  • Emergency referral and treatment coordination
  • Local community resources and referral procedures


Key Skills:

  • Strong listening and communication abilities
  • Competent in data entry and EHR documentation
  • Confident group facilitation and counseling skills
