Quantum Space is redefining mobility and maneuverability in space. Our high-mobility spacecraft platforms support national security, civil, and commercial missions with unmatched flexibility and propulsion capability. We build fast and iterate quickly.

We are seeking a Principal Propulsion Engineer to lead the design and delivery of innovative propulsion subsystems and components. This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with groundbreaking technologies; from concept to development to on-orbit operations.

Where Youll Make an Impact

  • Lead in-space propulsion subsystem and component development across the entire lifecycle, from initial design and analysis to build, test, and flight operations.
  • Build high-functioning teams.
  • Collaborate with a high-performing, cross-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Apply creativity and engineering rigor to solve complex propulsion challenges and deliver on stakeholder requirements.

What It Takes

  • Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in the design, analysis, build, test, and operation of space propulsion systems, including:
  • Leading a team from design to delivery of in-space propulsion system.
  • Ownership of schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to communicate across engineering disciplines and with project management.
  • Familiarity with the test, integration, and operation of propulsion components for space vehicles (e.g., tanks, valves, filters, pressure transducers, pumps, thrusters/engines).
  • Strong leadership skills, with an emphasis on building high-functioning teams.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis tools.
  • Adaptability in an evolving environment.
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and mentoring.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Experience innovating in a fast paced start-up culture.
  • Advanced propulsion analysis expertise using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, CFD, FEA, Surface Evolver, and GFSSP.
  • Experience with CAD tools.
  • Strong background in risk management.
  • Programming skills in Java, Python, Julia, and/or C++.
  • Familiarity with 5S (6S) and Lean Six Sigma.

What Youll Get

  • Leadership Opportunities to lead teams and drive mission objectives.
  • Innovation A chance to set propulsion standards and develop test strategies for next-generation spacecraft.
  • Impact See your work fly on unique, high-profile missions.
  • Growth A technical leadership path in a fast-growing space company with bold ambitions.
  • Compensation Competitive salary, equity, and top-tier benefits, including medical, dental, vision, generous leave, HSA, 401(k) matching, and equity sharing

Additional Requirements
