Job Title: | Pontoon Rail & Fabrication Assembly Lead

Reports To: | Manufacturing Lead


Summary:
The Pontoon Rail Fabrication & Assembly Lead is responsible for leading process improvements, material flow, quality systems, and throughput optimization within the rail fabrication and assembly department. This role supports operational excellence by driving inventory control, scrap reduction, inspection systems, and cross-functional coordination to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality rail production.

Responsibilities:
  • Process Improvement & Tooling
    • Lead projects to improve throughput, quality, safety, and cost performance.
    • Identify, justify, and implement fabrication and assembly fixtures, racks, tables, and specialized equipment.
    • Maintain and improve tooling and fixtures to ensure dimensional accuracy and repeatability.
  • Inventory Control & Material Flow
    • Oversee inventory management for rails, subcomponents, and small parts.
    • Implement and maintain a two-bin Kanban system to ensure consistent material availability.
    • Optimize material flow, staging, replenishment, and WIP levels to support production schedules.
  • Rail Flow & External Coordination
    • Track inbound and outbound rail shipments to and from Bearcat.
    • Coordinate with logistics, purchasing, and anodizing partners to manage external rail flow.
    • Ensure accurate documentation and timely transfers across all external processes.
  • Quality & Scrap Reduction
    • Implement scrap reporting and analyze trends to drive corrective actions.
    • Develop and maintain in-process, post-weld, and inbound inspection procedures.
    • Partner with Quality to ensure compliance with specifications and continuous improvement.
  • Scheduling, Throughput & Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Establish daily run rates aligned with production demand and assembly sequencing.
    • Develop and manage schedules balancing labor, material, and equipment capacity.
    • Coordinate with Purchasing, Material Handling, Production, and Quality to remove constraints and promote safe operations.

Required education and experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or production operations
  • Experience with material flow, inventory control, and WIP management
  • Experience working with fixtures, tooling, and fabrication processes
  • Strong understanding of quality inspection and documentation practices
Preferred education and experience:
  • Leadership or lead-level experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Kanban systems and lean manufacturing tools
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors or anodizing partners
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to welders and fabrication team members on shift.
  • Assist in coordinating work assignments and ensuring team adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Support the training of new employees by sharing best practices and demonstrating standard work procedures.
  • Communicate production issues or personnel concerns to the Manufacturing Supervisor or Manager for resolution.
  • Monitor work area organization and help enforce 5S and safety practices as directed by leadership.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments with exposure to seasonal weather year-round.
Work environment:
  • Standard manufacturing environment.
  • Work is performed inside or outside year-round. There is exposure to dirt, dust, noise, equipment, vibrations, and seasonal weather conditions.
  • All necessary PPE will be provided.
Travel Requirements:
  • There is no travel required for this role.

  • 1st Shift, Monday through Friday: 6:00am 3:30pm
  • OT or possible adjustments to schedule as needed
