Job Description
We’re hiring a Director of Finance who can operate at both the strategic level and deep in the day-to-day financials of a construction business. This is a high-impact leadership role with full ownership of the company’s financial operations and strategy. You’ll serve as a key advisor to the President and executive team, shaping decisions that drive profitability, growth, and risk management. Beyond strategy, you’ll be hands-on with corporate accounting, WIP and job cost reporting, AIA billing accuracy, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning.
You will directly influence the company’s success by improving systems, ensuring compliance, and partnering with operations to optimize project performance. This is an opportunity to make a measurable difference in a stable, growing construction business.
This role is fully onsite, Monday–Friday in River Edge, NJ.
Key Functions
- Lead all financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support organizational growth.
- Advise the President and senior leadership on financial performance, risk, and capital management.
- Evaluate and enhance financial systems, processes, and controls for accuracy and compliance.
- Oversee general ledger accounting, month-end and year-end close, and preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Manage the chart of accounts, reporting structures, and financial system integrations.
- Review WIP schedules, job cost reports, and percent-complete revenue recognition.
- Ensure timely, accurate AIA billing and project closeout reconciliations.
- Partner with operations to identify financial risks and opportunities at the project level.
- Lead annual audits and coordinate with external accounting firms.
- Supervise and mentor a finance team: Treasurer, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.
Qualifications
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced credential strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including managing accounting teams in construction or related industries.

- Proficiency with Sage 300 CRE and familiarity with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with Operations and Project Management to improve financial performance.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to oversee Treasury, AP, and cross-functional finance processes.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
