Job Description
ogent, Inc. is seeking a Control Systems Fabricator to join our team in Kansas City. The Control Systems Fabricator is responsible for the hands-on assembly, wiring, and support of industrial control panels based on approved electrical schematics and standards. This role works closely with Control Systems Engineers, project managers, and field service teams to ensure control panels are built accurately, safely, and to Cogent’s quality expectations.
You’ll apply your electrical and controls fabrication skills to support municipal and industrial automation projects, playing a critical role in delivering reliable, high-quality control systems that help our customers operate safely and efficiently.
Fabricate and wire industrial control panels according to electrical schematics, layout drawings, and bill of materials
Install and wire PLC hardware, HMIs, VFDs, power supplies, relays, terminal blocks, and field termination points
Perform point-to-point wiring, labeling, and verification against schematics
Support panel checkout and testing activities, including continuity checks and basic functional verification
Identify wiring issues, component discrepancies, or drawing conflicts and communicate findings to Engineering
Maintain clean, organized, and professional panel builds that meet Cogent quality and safety standards
Assist with panel modifications, retrofits, and rework as needed
Follow all electrical safety procedures and shop practices
Work Environment/Travel Expectations
This position is primarily shop-based, supporting panel fabrication activities. Occasional interaction with engineering and field teams may be required. Limited travel may occur for panel delivery support or coordination, but regular field commissioning is not required.
Minimum Qualifications
Technical degree, trade school certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in electrical or controls fabrication
Experience wiring industrial control panels or electrical assemblies
Ability to read and follow electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Experience working with 120VAC, 480VAC, and 24VDC control circuits
Familiarity with industrial control components (PLCs, VFDs, relays, terminal blocks)
Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
Ability to work independently from drawings with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as project needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Allen-Bradley control hardware (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PowerFlex)
Exposure to UL 508A panel shop practices and wiring standards
Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical schematics
Experience supporting panel checkout or factory acceptance testing (FAT)
Interest in growing into Lead Fabricator or Controls Hardware roles
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with shifting priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
