Connected Roots Care Center (CRCC) defines what comprehensive child care looks like. We are a unique child care and therapy center that supports children and young adults, whether they are typically developing or have developmental, behavioral, or medical needs. For 35 years, we've partnered with families to deliver individualized care that helps each child grow and helps parents keep working. At CRCC, nurses, therapists, and educators work together to provide care in a community where every child is understood, supported, and able to thrive.

A day in the Life of Our Interns:Summer Camp Support Staff are responsible for assisting with the implementation of the educational program, activities of daily living (ADL’s), and personal cares with assistance of a teacher or paraprofessional for CRCC clients and provide positive behavioral supports to classroom staff. Interns will also be required to participate in CRCC's Educational, Healthcare and Administrative Professions Job Shadow Experience. This job shadow exposes interns to 10 different career paths within CRCC including Rehab Therapy, Nursing, Business/Finance/Development, HR, Communications and Admissions all along while working in a classroom gaining experience in Early Childhood Education. Interns will be required to complete a survey and write a summary following each job shadow. At the end of the program, interns will complete a social media project with our Communications Coordinator highlighting their experience at CRCC.
The starting wage for this position is $15 per hour. The summer intern must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours and up to 40 hours per week. Both 4 hour and 8 hour shifts will be required during this internship.

Educational Responsibilities: 

· Actively participates with clients and provides encouragement, assistance and guidance as needed.

· Assists teacher in implementing the routine of daily activities according to the educational curriculum and CRCC philosophy.

· Anticipates the need and provides assistance in teacher directed activities.

· Assists in maintaining a neat, safe, and attractive room (dishes, trash, floors, etc).

· Willingly accepts teacher’s guidance and assists teacher with preparatory work.

· Appropriately demonstrates and practices CRCC’s disciplinary guidelines, while implementing individual client behavioral plans.

Promoting Social-Emotional Development:

· Meets the emotional needs of each client.

· Engages in and initiates meaningful communication with clients at their developmental level.

· Is alert to non-verbal cues.

· Provides positive guidance techniques, which foster the client's ability to be self-disciplined.

· Fosters independence in care and use of developmentally appropriate materials, toys, and equipment.

Positive Behavioral Supports:

· Demonstrates the appropriate and consistent use of positive reinforcement to manage children’s behaviors throughout the day according to CRCC policies and procedures.

· Anticipates the needs of the clients and provides positive behavioral supports or assistance in teacher directed activities.

A Typical Schedule Looks Like:

· Interns will work 20-40 hours. 

· Shifts are generally 1-5pm Monday through Friday. 

· Job Shadows will be scheduled throughout from 9-12pm. 

· It is possible for an intern to be scheduled to work 9-12pm, 1-5pm or 8-5pm. This will be determined by Site Director and job shadow schedule.

Requirements

  

To Work Here, You Need:

Minimum Qualifications:

· Must be at least 16 years of age.

· Must be able to complete in-person orientation and pre-service trainings prior to start of internship.

· Must be able to work scheduled 8 hour (8-5pm) or 4 hour (1-5pm) shift consistently.

· Able to complete CRCC’s 10 job shadow rotations throughout internship which may be scheduled for mornings and/or afternoons.

· Must be agile enough to perform the job as a caretaker of young clients.

· Able to meet agency’s conditions of employment regarding health status and clearance with the Nebraska Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry and/or Adult Abuse/Neglect Registry and the Nebraska State Patrol.

What You Can Expect From Us:

Interns will complete both online and in person training. Interns will be assigned a classroom mentor who will help new interns with training and become engaged in the classroom and help build relationships with clients and staff. Interns who are unable to maintain described work schedule, unable to complete job shadows, or unable to perform duties as explained may not be allowed to complete the Summer Internship.
