Lytle Preserve Assistant Site Manager (Temporary)

The Lytle Preserve (LP) is located about 36 miles west of St. George, Washington County, Utah, and functions as a nature preserve as well as an education and research center under the direction of Brigham Young University (BYU). The LP site manager resides at the field station and works on site to maintain safety and manage operations of the 570 acres that make up the LP. The site manager is the first contact for guests visiting the LP and is responsible for providing orientation and for facilitating some guest activities. The site manager reports directly to the Director of the Bean Life Science Museum.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Maintenance coordinator
  • Visitation coordinator
  • Research assistant
  • Vegetation and orchard management
  • Help develop land use policies

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU. 
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Degree(s) or experience in one or more of the following fields is preferred: Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Outdoor Recreation, Business Management, Public Administration, or related areas.
  • Ability to think and carry out work functions interpedently.
  • Willingness to be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Good or excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for dealing effectively with researchers, students, the public, local landowners, local law enforcement, as well as federal and state land managers.

Preferred

  • Graduate degree in some area of biology, land management, or public administration.
  • Previous experience and/or training in ranch, farm or field station management.
  • Skills in irrigation systems operation and maintenance, as well as in equipment maintenance and repair.

Pay Grade: 51

Typical Starting Pay: $28.25 to $36.25 an hour
