Job Summary
Sun Harbor is seeking a reliable and compassionate Dietary Aide/Cook to support our food service department. This role is essential in ensuring residents receive nutritious, well-prepared meals in a safe, sanitary, and respectful environment. Flexibility is key, as duties may vary based on daily operational needs.
Key Responsibilities

Report to work on time, in proper uniform, and ready for duty
-
Handle food, equipment, and utensils in accordance with sanitation and safety policies
-
Operate kitchen equipment safely and in compliance with regulations
-
Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to planned menus, standardized recipes, and special diet orders
-
Prepare food for therapeutic and special diets as directed
-
Deliver food carts, trays, and meals to resident rooms and dining areas
-
Serve meals in dining rooms in a courteous and timely manner
-
Prepare and distribute snacks, including bedtime snacks
-
Ensure proper portion control and food presentation
-
Inspect special diet trays to ensure accuracy before service
-
Make only authorized food substitutions
-
Prepare substitute foods for residents who refuse scheduled meals
-
Assist with food preparation for special events and meals
-
Coordinate food service activities with nursing and other departments
-
Process diet changes and new diet orders from Nursing Services
-
Assist in establishing and maintaining efficient food service production lines
-
Maintain menus and required documentation in accordance with policies
-
Complete necessary reports, forms, and administrative requirements
-
Perform routine and scheduled cleaning duties of kitchen and dining areas
-
Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of work areas at all times

Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations

Report discrepancies or concerns to the Food Services Director

Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of the Cook when assigned

Perform related duties as assigned by the Food Services Director
Candidate Requirements

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require

Strong attention to sanitation, safety, and organization

Ability to properly care for supplies, equipment, and work areas

Willingness to learn new methods and incorporate them into food service practices

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Flexible and dependable
Experience & Qualifications

Experience Required: Minimum 1 year preferred

Nursing Home Experience: Preferred, but not required
