Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years or older,
  • High school diploma or G.E.D,
  • Driver’s License must be valid in the state of New Jersey,
  • Minimum 1 year of experience providing service to individuals with developmental disabilities,
  • Must submit to a criminal background check and be determined to be not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to hire,
  • Must agree to have name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities,
  • All employees hired after 6/15/18 shall submit to drug testing prior to employment,
  • All employees shall submit to drug testing conducted randomly and for cause,
  • All employees hired after 7/16/18 shall complete an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).

Supervises: Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)


Duties:

Depending on the needs of the individuals and the programs, additional duties may be assigned. When the Program Manager is absent from the program, you are responsible for working with the Executive Director (ED) to determine how the work will be completed. Unless otherwise stated, do not delegate these tasks without permission from your ED.

In addition to your Direct Support Professional duties, you are responsible for the following tasks as an Assistant Manager (Residential):

  • Develops and maintains an interactive relationship with each resident that reflects values and principles held by Tender Care.
  • Develops and maintains a positive and supportive relationship with subordinates. 
  • Coordinates service provision within the community in conjunction with the case manager to meet the individual needs of residents and to achieve each resident’s ISP goals.
  • Reviews all task analyses and documented client training forms.
  • Develops and implements house menus, individual and group recreational activity plans.
  • Identifies and implements strategies for maximizing the inclusion of residents in the life of the community.
  • Provides direct care to residents as needed, including the provision of emergency coverage to the group home.
  • Prepares and submits monthly medication orders for each resident. In the absence of the Direct Support Professional, when necessary, may administer medication and documents in compliance with Tender Care’s policies and procedures which adhere to DHS guidelines. In the absence of the Residential Director, monitors compliance with DHS guidelines for medication administration and documentation.
  • Accompanies all residents on medical appointments and coordinates follow up visits.
  • Orients new residents to basic safety practices in the group home and ensures that emergency drills are conducted as required.
  • Manages critical documentation - this includes, but is not limited to, Daily Shift Notes, Critical Logs and Community Based/Individual Supports Logs.
  • Conducts physical inspections of the residential programs.
  • Supervises of the following matters:
    • Staff management,
    • Staff issues,
    • Incident management.
  • Develops and maintains weekly schedules for residential staff members. This includes liaison with Tender Care’s payroll and finance team.
  • Manages first aid kit checks - this includes home and van kits.
  • Manage fire safety tasks:
    • Perform fire drills (once a month),
    • Check and sign all program fire extinguishers tags,
  • Manages the residents’ inventory list(s) (every 6 months).
  • Participates in tasks pertaining to annual licensing requirements.
  • Manages agency vehicles and cell phone(s).
  • Performs household maintenance.
  • Makes copies of all necessary paperwork.
  • Completes all DDD required training and continues to improve skills through training required by Tender Care.
  • Cooperates with Tender care and Department of Human Services (DHS) staff during any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
  • Communicates with ED regarding any injuries within the allotted time frame.
