Grounds Worker and Floating Substitute Custodian - Full-time

Job Title:  Grounds Worker and Floating Substitute Custodian
Position Available February 2026
Reports To:  Building Principal and Director of Facilities
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
Work Days:  260 days (8 hour days - typical schedule is from 6:30am-3:00pm during the school year) - Overtime opportunities available.
Rate of pay range: $17.25-$22.25 per hour per hour (Based on experience) following the 2025-26 school year pay schedule for Custodians
Board paid IMRF board paid IMRF pension, paid vacation days, and benefits options available. 

Job Summary: Grounds work to include but not limited to trimming, mowing, and grounds maintenance functions during the growing season months. Position will also support our custodial team providing general cleaning and custodial assistance as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: This job requires the ability to follow directions and work with a supervisor and others.   

• Experience in similar work environment, i.e.. lawn care and/ or building maintenance  .
• Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment
• Ability to operate, service and maintain equipment used in grounds keeping duties

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

• Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
• Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
• Requires climbing and balancing. Work in high places.
• Must work indoors and outdoors in summer weather conditions.
• Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate in grounds keeping activities.
• Participate in mowing and maintenance of district property i.e..Mowing and trimming grass; removal, replacement or trimming trees and shrubs;
• Cleaning, repairing or patching sidewalks, driveways and parking lots;
• Cleanup trash from all district properties  
• Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
• Observe district policies at all times.
• Work a variety of hours in order to perform duties.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds or District Administrative Staff.
