Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring at least 2 years of CVICU experience and an active IL RN license.

    \n
  • Work in a Level 1 trauma acute care hospital setting within the Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
  • \n
  • 20-bed unit, all private and monitored rooms
  • \n
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on acuity
  • \n
  • Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valves, dissections, AAA), vascular procedures, carotids, STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, and TAVR patients
  • \n
  • Care for ventilated patients and occasional overflow patients from other ICUs
  • \n
  • Utilizes specialty intervention equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
  • \n
  • Manages various lines including PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
  • \n
  • Responsible for titrating multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epi, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
  • \n
  • Utilizes Philips cardiac monitoring and is expected to read and interpret strips independently
  • \n
  • Uses EPIC EMR system
  • \n
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • \n
  • Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday for night shift)
  • \n
  • Every other holiday coverage required
  • \n
  • Floating required to all levels of care with full patient assignment expected
  • \n
  • Charge nurses and house supervisors are available 24/7
  • \n
  • Respiratory therapists available 24/7 for ventilator, CPAP, BPAP, and high flow support
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active IL RN license required
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of solid CVICU experience required
  • \n
  • Basic Life Support (BLS - AHA) certification required
  • \n
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • \n
  • CCRN certification a plus
  • \n
  • Must be proficient in all cardiovascular ICU components with exception of immediate post-op, VAD, and transplant care
  • \n
  • Ability to interpret cardiac strips independently required
  • \n
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and time management skills required
  • \n
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
  • \n
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal facility-specific training
  • \n
Additional Information\n
    \n
  • Provide direct nursing care to complex cardiovascular ICU patients including those requiring multiple simultaneous interventions such as swans, CVC, art lines, temporary pacemakers, and ventilator support
  • \n
  • EP patients are frequently admitted to this unit
  • \n
  • Unit will soon begin caring for post-VAD placement and post-heart transplant patients
  • \n
  • No particular scrub color required, but attire must be professional and appropriate; scrubs are not provided by facility
  • \n
